how do i adjust the timing

For ignition timing, there is a hold-down 'plate' with one bolt on the base of the distributor. You will need a timing light and turn distributor to 8° BTDC by hooking up timing light to #1 spark plug wire and point light at harmonic balancer where the timing marks are; Dark conditions are best, you can see better

I only now noticed that this is a 1995. It may have coil packs and in that case you can't. The timing is controlled by the PCM from the crank and camshaft sensors, and knock detector. What engine, the 5.0?
