power seat gear

Asked by cudajim Aug 24, 2009 at 08:08 PM about the 2000 Lexus SC 300 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 SC300 and the drivers power seat stopped moving fore and aft.  I took it out of the car, tore it apart and found the inside track plastic gear was broken.  It's driven by a mini driveshaft from the motor which drives the outer track.  I cannot buy the gear from any dealer.  All they can tell me is I have to buy the entire seat track assy. which is $1700.00.  That's never going to happen for a gear which should be about a buck.  I cannot believe Lexus would make a heavy duty seat and cheap out with the most important part of the whole system.  In the meantime I took the gear out and left the inside track free floating.  Any ideas?
