'05 Lexus cuts off while idling in park and want start back

Question type: General

What can cause a "05 Lexus to cut off while idling in part with the ac plus radio
on. When try to turn car back on it want make a sound and no dash lights
nothing, but door bell ding will sound some if key in switch. Has oil and water.
Had been running in a very dry dirt area.

Load test the battery. Is it dead? If so, recharge it and check the alternator. Sounds like the alternator stopped working and the engine was running on just the battery. When the battery died the engine stopped. Hope that helps! Jim

Yeah; your battery has just enough juice left to energize that door ajar dinger. That's about half a volt..... I agree that your alternator is likely dead or dying, and that's starved the battery. Get the battery charged up so you can drive a mile or so to a mechanic. He'll test the battery and charging system. It might just be corroded battery cables, or something relatively minor, but in a car this old, you shouldn't take any chances. It's a 95% chance you're going to need a new alternator and battery.
