Does a replacement ecm require programming before installation?

Usually does..depends on the yer also..if your car brings (immo)...anti theft...if you replace your ecu even with matching numbers you still have to get it reprogrammed..unless you find ECU with deleted immo

Does the Lexus dealer have to reprogram the ecm? Or can third party shops do this?

You can but it might be more pricey...my ecu burnt up..i bought used one with immo...3rd party were charging me almost $300...to get repro...dealer..$117...ended up sending ecu back and changed for one with immo delete...

So are you saying no programming is necessary without the immobilization?

Yes...it doenst require repro...if ecu has immo...it requires repro...

How would you know if your car has the immo feature?

My 2004 Lexus LS 430 has started showing up in Japanese and gauges have stopped working /only the gas gauge is working My mechanic says he thinks I will need a new computer to repair these issues. How much would this item cost and where would I locate this item
