Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2006 Lexus GS300 with 122,000
miles and I'm having issues with the
transmission shifting funny at times and I've
done some research and I've heard some
different plausible explanations ranging
from the ECU surface mount resistors to
shift solenoids going bad. I'm leaning more
towards the solenoids going bad however is
there any way for a DIY guy to test a
solenoid? And as far as the ECU is
concerned, are the surface mount resistors
difficult to access to assess physical
damage?

Your best bet is have a pro hook it up to their diagnostic equipment. You will only be guessing at this point. Transmission work is not typically DIY.
