Timing Marks

Asked by Walap42 Jan 22, 2016 at 08:20 PM about the 1995 Ford Ranger XLT Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How can I determine which stroke the engine is on when on TDC?  There are
two times when the crank passes TDC for each one of the cam.  In the old
days I would just start it up and upon the first backfire I would know.  In an
"interterence" engine this sort of test could be disastrous.
