New second hand Starter motor stays engaged

Its a mitsi challenger 98 bought a starter
motor from a wreckers and after the car
starts the starter motor stays engaged Is it
OK to drive it at all short distance, starter
doesn't look exactly the same but very
similar could it be the wrong one or what
other things could keep the starter engaged
