is it more risky to buy from a private seller?

Riskier than what? A dishonest person will try to take advantage of you regardless. Buying from a private seller or a dealer can be risky just the same. Have the vehicle checked by an independent mechanic and be sure to ask ALL questions before signing a contract or giving money.
Look for a "certified pre-owned" car from a major dealer or one with a warranty if you want piece of mind. Buying a used car from a private owner always has risks and you need to do your due diligence or know a car's history with maintenance records to avoid lemons.
THERE ARE STILL SOME GOOD PEOPLE THAT SELL PRIVATE SALES SOMETIMES YOU SHOULD THINK BEFORE YOU BUY TAKE A BUDDY AND GET HIS INPUT PRIVATE SALES IN MANITOBA CANADA YOU SAVE ONE TAX OF 5 PERCENT AND CARS ARE LESS WHEN PRIVATE SALE STILL MAKE SURE YOU TRUST PERSON
One way to reduce risk is to have the car inspected by a good mechanic Before buying. In general the least risky option is to buy a certified car from a New car dealer, no shady corner car lots for you!
