98 grand marquis

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey, I have a 97 grand marquis. The person I
bought it from said I would need to change the
plugs because it had a misfire. Basically the car
takes a minute to get in gear. So I changed the
plugs but it still having the same problem. My
friend told me that it may be the transmission. I
need help. Let me also add that the overdrive
doesn't work at all. I don't know if it's related or
not.

Misfire can be plugs, plug wires, coil (or coils), cap and/or rotor. Check the last two don't have any cracks. Not going into gear, check for low transmission fluid. Low fluid or a dirty filter, find a tranny shop in your area and take it in for servicing, they can run a computer diagnostic on it and make sure it isn't a clutch pack or shift solenoid. A flush, fill, filter change, and diagnostic will run you around 175-200 depending on where you're from, but worth it. If however they tell you it needs rebuilt get out of there and just buy a used one from a scrap yard or reman one.
