1996 Nissan Maxima
I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima. I've had it for
2 years. Have never had a problem with it
until about a month ago. It keeps killing. I
don't know how far or long I can drive it
before it cuts off. I can crank it back but it
will kill again. Any ideas on what it could be.

When it cranks and doesnt start, check for spark.Remove a plug wire, put a plug in it hold it with a VERY heavy rag,or non-conductive tool(like plastic tongs)near a ground(alt.bolt or similar).Have someone crank it.If there is no spark jumping from the plug, you have a no- spark condition.(bad coil,ICM,pick-up etc) Also when it cranks and doesnt start, spray a little starting fluid or Carb cleaner into the intake. If it runs on what you sprayed and then dies, you have a fuel delivery problem.(fuel pump relay etc)
There's no problem cranking it though. If a spark is bad, doesn't it make the car mist?
Im not sure I know what you mean. Someone knowledgable will know what procedures Im refferring to. Maybe you have a mechanical friend?
You said "when it cranks & doesn't start". But I don't have a problem starting it. It starts on the dime. I was asking if a spark plug is bad, wouldn't it make the car mist or not necessarily?
If you mean make the car "miss" as in misfire yes a bad spark plug would do that
Lol yes that's what I mean. My car doesn't miss. Should I still check the spark plugs?
Spark plugs can tell you alot about the engines condition.Google it. If they are old change them.
Thanks a lot I'll be updating as soon as I get the spark plugs checked.
