to crank or not to crank

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '08 2500 HD 6.0 Vortec will start when I turn
the key to Start but sometimes I can let the key
turn back to off and it will start cranking. Changed
the starter and it started 5 times then only a click
now. The fuses are good and all the connections
are tight. Could it be the ignition?

Sounds like you wore the battery down, and it sounds like there is a problem with the ignition switch down on the column.

I fully charged both batteries and it would only click. So I held the key turned in the start position then let it back to RUN then back to start and it cranked right up. Ignition switch?

There is a rod that runs down to the ignition switch, sometimes they will bend enough to not operate the ignition switch properly.
