I have a 1997 Chevy Malibu with 116,000 miles. If I drive it in the neighborhood and back and forth to work about 14 miles round trip, it works fine. But if I go about 20-25 miles, it will just lose power and stop. i turn it off and let it sit for a few moments and then it will start back up and drive again. The longer it sits the further I can go. Any thoughts.

change the fuel filter first.....

Why is it so hard to start my car? I have 98,000 miles on it and I just had the timing chain and fuel pump and fuel filter replaced. I can't get it started usually in the cold months. It keeps turning over but it takes sometimes 45 minutes of trying to start it before it gets started. I have tried using starting fluid but it still takes a long time. Once I get it started it is fine for the rest of the day. It will start right up. But if I let it sit overnight it will have the same problem in the morning. I also just put a new alternator and battery in it and all the trying to start it is just wearing the battery down to where I have to hook the jumper cables up to another car to try and get it started. i have a 2005 bmw x5 3.0, in the morning i drove about 2 miles. after a little while I started the car but wasnt even a cranking sound, then i jump start it and drove about a mile to get home. i stop the car, in morning i try to start again, in the first turn nothing happened, tryed again and it started, but i drove like about 8 mils and it was dead. while i was driving the battery sign was blinking. Then i jump start again and drove for another 4 mils to a parts store. They checked the battery and said it is fine, but the machine says 9.8 - 10 low but good, then we try to start it but it was in starting, so he jump start it agin and i drove about 15 miles, then i shut off, and restart few time, without any problem, but after a little while the alarm go of by itself. According to the Mechanic, it's the alternator or the starter. Can you please help me with it, which one you think it is alternator, starter or battery?? 4 Answers

We just purchased a used 1995 Dodge Neon and we are having problems with it. The problem is the car will drive for approximately 15 to 20 minutes and the engine begins to jump and miss. When this occurs, we stop the car and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes and then it will go for about 8 miles (10 to 15 minutes) and will start missing and jumping again. We took it to advance auto and they used a computer diagnostic machine and told us the ignition coil was malfunctioning, so we replaced it but it is still doing the same thing (missing and jumping). My wife says she smells a gas/fuel smell when it starts. Also, thought I had water in the gas tank, so I used dry gas but that didn't help either. Do the 1995 Neon's have a particular problem that sounds like mine? Thank you for any help you can give. 5 Answers

We are also having problems with the dashboard instrument lights and panel are not working. They also work on and off.
