My brake lights stay on after a stop and I have to use my foot to lift pedal up slightly for them to go off...its on a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500

Sorta sounds like issues with the brake light switch, but installation adjustment, you can try to find the procedure to adjust yours, perhaps

I agree with Dannyl reason being my 2006 Trailblazer did something similar,only brake lights wouldn't light up at all and it was my brake light switch, not one hundred percent sure but if you are having any other like for instant my cruise had stopped but after I got the brake light switch replaced it went to working again... Also one other thing when you or get brake light switch fixed make sure you either unplug your positive cable to clear system or you may get some false reading ok.....
