How much trans fluid?

Hey guys I have a 02 ford explorer
automatic tranny. It holds a capacity
of 12.7 ATF 2wd... I'm only taking the
pan off do I need to drain the torque
converter while I'm in there? or can I
just drain the pan which is about
5qts.
