how do i replace thermostat on pontiac grand am 2000

car overheating, fan was not working until i unplugged engine temp sensor, want to replace thermostat but can only get to one bolt.

soon as the temp sensor gets unplugged it goes into closed loop... the fans will run continuously. Get yourself a gear wrench 13MM helps alot in removal and install. also remember almost all of the 3.4L pontiacs have an open slot in the bottom of the thermostat housing so the bolt does NOT need to be full removed!
