We are looking for a new used car, listings show motor sizes as F4. I4. I'm assuming F4 stands for Fuel injection, but what does I4 mean?

L4 or l4 means inline four ...See the following description on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inline-four

Also, the inline 4 by default (on a newer car that is) will be fuel injected, since they replaced carburetors in the late 80's.

I4 would be a inline four. F4 I believe might mean that it's a flat 4 with horizontally opposed cylinders and pistons on either side of the engine block, opposite one another. VW Beetles, Porsches, Suburus and BMW motorcycles use this type of engine. V-type engines use an engine block with two angled parts forming the shape of the letter "V".
