On a 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS, when changing the front brake pads - do the wear indicators (squeakers) go on the inner pad top or the outer pad top?

They go on the inner pad top. The inner pads wear faster and they are harder to visually inspect.

Thank you so much! I did one wheel where the wear indicator was on the outside, and then got to the other which was on the inside. Whoever did the pads last got a set with pads for the same side. So I just redid the side I already had done and put the indicator on the inside top and finished the other side the same way. I appreciate both of your answers.

I have a problem with my Hyundai Tucson 2007, the rear left brake rotor is wearing only half an inch from its center (inside and outside face). I have checked the left rear brake pads (in and out), I cleaned the caliper and the caliper mounting bracket, the pad retainers and the brake pads still rub only on the inner brake rotor. Crosstrek replace rear brake pads AGAIN? My daughter living in Boston has a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek at approx 61,000 miles. Brakes squeaking and the dealer service dept telling her she needs new rear brake pads. Front are fine. They were previously replaced 2 years / 20K miles ago, plus rotors replaced at that time. What could be going on to wear rear brake pads so quickly? Is it climate or how she drives? Should she be using some specific kind of brake pad given history of fast wearing out? Can she go to any mechanic (recommendations?) or should she stay with the Subaru dealer? 1 Answer
