Depends on who's driving. I can beat most ricers and mustangs in my town with my '89 Century simply because I know how to use what it has against a "superior" opponent.
Yes and No. Each has models that are superior in various things. My thing is to always provide proof. Here is some dated video. Boy how times have changed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUt6Yf11MEU VS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsZcaPD5iq8&feature=channel_page
take an 70 ss chevelle and theres no muscle car that can touch it. 500 hp and 500 ftlbs of torque from the 454 bone stock.
The 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 had 450 hp, not 500 Chase. The most for any documented muscle car. The only subsiquent car to receive more was the rare and limited 1967-69 Corvette L-88's.
dan, car and driver i believe dynoed an all original one and it made the 500. it was rated 450 but on the dyno it made more. they were astonished it made as much as it did. i only remember because i was as mind blown as they were haha. it ran around a 13 sec 1/4 mile with stock rubber and a 12.2 with wider tires. stock ones broke loose through the first 3 gears. it was a great article. im having trouble finding it right now. if you find it let me know. id like to read it again.
All musclecars we're underrated Chase. They also measured power differently back then (SAE vs. Net). What matters most is performance numbers off the showroom floor in that period. That is how all the purists measure, its only fair we do the same. The Chevelle SS LS6 is one of my personal favorite muscle cars. All the articles i have seen claim a mid-low 13. in the quarter, which is very comparable to the 442 video I posted. ofcourse as like today, getting real times from magazines is hard too, even with 500ft lbs. Here is documented period info from C&D and MT. http://www.powerblocktv.com/50fastest.html
The LS6 was their premo. Olds had a pretty good getty up car in the W30 and the Hurst Olds.
