Good question... I personally think it's because we're stupid and haven't figured out that most car companies are comparable and all have short comings and advantages when compared to the others... Too many think that Toyotas and Hondas last forever (Ironic since the 90s Corollas and Camrys that made Toyota famous for reliability were manufactured in GM plants... There is a reason they look like Geos) I mean come on, we're the country that crushed the global economy because we bought too much on credit when interest rates were low and crushed the financial system when we couldn't pay for our debts. A situation that Greenspan had warned about, but we choose to ignore until it was too late. But we can take comfort in the fact that we screwed the rest of the world economy worse than our own (based on the value of the dollar as compared to the euro in the past few months)
