I have paid off my car and am selling it today, but my title is in the mail and i do

You don't have the title until you have it physically in your possession. Explain that to your buyer. If the person is absolutely going to buy the vehicle take down any advertising you have and consider the vehicle sold. Take a deposit from the buyer to hold the vehicle and give them a receipt for the deposit. On the receipt note that this is a deposit on the vehicle that will hold the vehicle for them for 30 days. That should be more than enough time for you to get the title. Also indicate on the receipt that you will contact them immediately to complete the sale when you have the title. The deposit is refundable only if you don't have the tire within 30 days of receiving the deposit. Hope that helps! Jim
