Cars suitable for road trip

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Hi! I’m taking a road trip from Washington to
Tennessee. I need a larger car with enough
space to take some stuff. I’d love a truck but
my price limit is 5,000-6,000 on a car. Not
much. Any suggestions on a good car? I’d
love a Toyota 4Runner or Tacoma, but they
are so expensive.

Low mileage and maintenance are key for any car you buy. However you have a low budget, so whatever you do buy be sure to have it looked over by a mechanic before setting out on a long distance road trip. 5 to 6K might get you a decent around town beater, but you may not find anything in that price range worthy of a major road trip. Leave yourself enough money to buy tires too, if you have to.

If you just want a car you might check out used Avalon's.
