electric fans now only come on when air on

noticed the truck running hotter lately, and the weather pretty cool. overflow / pickup tank at correct level, no leaks, but noticed fans not coming on, until the air conditioner turned on. any ideas on sensors, relays, fuses, to check. or any ideas out there? it's a 2005 Silverado 5.3 with 107k and runs perfectly and well maintained...... thanks, kmac.
