14 RAM 1500 express 17-22 mpg

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was coming here hoping to get tips on improving
my mpg, looks like mine is fine. In the summer I get
22 highway during the winter cause I don't have a
4x4 I put pallets in the back (strapped down) for
traction, I get 17 highway. I thought all this was
bad. I guess not, but I will be buying a K&N today.

Yes sounds like you are doing good there with the gas mileage. The K&N cold air intake system should help some along with regular maintenance on the engine. One thing people forget about is changing the trany fluid & filter, and the rear differential fluid when they are due.

You are right in the ballpark. My 2014 Ram Express Hemi 4x4 quad cab gets about 18 to 18.5 at 65 to 70 mph on flat roads with no wind. I always calculate my mileage because the Ram's computer show my mpg to be 1.5 mpg higher than actual. Also I post all my fuelings on fuelly.com as it is free and calculates and records all my fuel transactions. Sorry, but the K&N will really not help fuel mileage. It might add a few horsepower, but not much difference in MPG. I have been there and done that several times. Keep a clean paper air filter in there. Synthetic lubricant in the transmission and differential may help MPG but only slightly. Proper tire pressure and a light throttle foot are the best methods to maximize fuel economy.
