2nd gear issues

I have a  2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9  auto 4x4 second gear issues it runs in 2nd gear at co low speeds but going up hills it seams to rev high and going down hills shift into 2nd it will not hold what could be the problems other than that shifts good overdrive works great to

Solenoid sticking/dirty. Change the transmission fluid and filter. Add a quart of LUCAS transmission treatment in place of a quart of transmission fluid. Drive it and see if it helps. You may have to do this twice to get it back to normal. Wait 500 miles before second change.
