Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The starter is working fine, the motor has to turn over several times before it starts. Once it starts it runs fine even one the hyway doing 70. The longer it sits the harder to start. If it is started and shut off and started back ,it starts alright. Haven't checked the fuel pressure yet, thinking that the fuel pump could be getting bad. No inline fuel filter on this truck, quess its in the tank with the fuel pump. Seems to start worse when the temp. is hotter outside and sitting in the sun.

have you checked the battery connections, battery or anything else in the electrical system. you can check the fuel pressure, but in order to change the fuel filter you'll need to drop the tank.

would look for a vacuum leak with an unlit propane torch, then replace the cracked butyl rubber hoses with silicone ones~

Forget the other two. Dodges are notorious for their check valves in the fuel pump for getting a little varnish on them. They then stick open. All the gas drains out of the fuel line, making it hard to start. Run some good fuel system cleaner through the gas. Might take two or three tanks. Use double the amount recommended. Even STP gas treatment is good. If you want to test that this is what it really is try this: turn the key all the way on but don't start it. Do this three times then try to start it. You are filling the fuel lines back up with this procedure. If that works..........put the gas treatment in.

@Danny what do you mean "Forget the other two.", I will not be forgotten~ is important, you know these automakers put crap in there disguised as vacuum lines..alls I can say as "it is all most important, the thing that we must do" to quote Gandhi~

He does have a point about turning the key to the "ON" position and givin it the old "one mississippi, two mississippi" delay, then try to "start" position~

@judge_roy the other two were fishing expeditions. Neither had anything to do with starting a Dodge. It's not a Ford. Your suggestion was perfect for a Ford............it's a Dodge. Stick to the Fords

Danny, some of that may have helped, regardless of make~ at "greenworld, Berkeley, CA" we were EXPERTS on all makes and models foreign and domestic...of course this is a ruse, but you have to make them work....on a Sunday....with NO parts, but machine shop service available~ you HAVE TO make it work~

Hey danny, I addressed some of his concerns about a Dodge pickup, as I own a 1997 Ram 1500 I feel that I may have some useful experience in the area. Just so you know I never had any problems with my check valve getting stuck.
