Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was using my dodge ram 4x4 to try and pull my tractor out of some manure. I had a chain tied to the front right frame area and first started to pull on the tractor easy but it would not budge. I then gave it some hard yanks but still could not get it to pull. When i took the chain off from the truck, I tried to put it in reverse and all the engine does is rev up and no reverse. If you let the truck idle it will go into reverse sometimes and you can back up but once you step on the gas it slips again and you cannot back up any further. Did I break the reverse band?  The truck goes in forward with no problem but i am afraid to take it out of my driveway and have it break down.

Is it safe to drive it in forward only or will it fail me soon?

Fyi those hooks on the front of your four wheel drive are for someone hooking on to u, to pull u out of a situation, its always best to hook up at the back, put in 4 low on the 4 wheel drive and low 1 on ur shifter, that is where u will find the best torgue
