Question type: Maintenance & Repair

when i start the car it dies on me when i am in the process of driving. i was going down the highway at 65 mph and the car just died. the lights were still on and there was no check engine light on. after i let the car sit for a few moments then it would start again and would allow me to drive it until it would die again. when i was going up a mountain to go home it died half way up the mountain and then it took forever to start so that i could get home. i replaced the fuel filter this morning. the fuel pump humms when you turn the key over. but agin it stalled on me while i was going up a mountain. then it wouls only start then stop immediatly. then after i let it sit for about 15 minutes it started and alowed me to get it home. anybody got any ideas why it is doing this?

Could be the fuel pump, or fuel filter even. Try pushing the accelerator down on time before you start the car. Does it contest starting then? If that's the case, the air-intake valve might be sticking in it's age.

replaced the fuel pump and the fuel filter also replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. would the air intake valve sticking cause the car to just shut off. i got a code out of it finally it is a p0340 which is the camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. any ideas on what this could mean. i just put a new one on the car today.

If this is still going on, here are some questions. How does it run before it stalls out? Is it rough at times? What are the gauges reading when this happens? As it is able to run and drive, something mechanical (other than overheating) is almost out of the options. It is certainly most likely to be in the sensor circuits or the control circuits. Perhaps a wire or connector related to the camshaft or crankshaft position sensors is loose, corroded, or getting pinched or hot - a code for a sensor doesn't automatically mean there is something wrong with the sensor itself. Hopefully this helps.

Car will crank but as soon as you hit the throttle it cuts off could it be a vacuum line

My car has done this twice since I’ve owned it, and both times it was the anti theft system shutting down the car. Both times, it eventually died and would not restart st all. I had to have the first key reprogrammed, and the next time a new key cut and programmed. Seems like a simple fix, but not a cheap one; that key fob and programming cost me $269.

For the stalling while running i had this issue aswell on my 2011 dodge avenger heat and i ran through so many things....endded up being the oxygen sensors it has 4 and if it doesnt read correctly for whatever reason it kills the engine mid drive so if thats the case replace those and you should be good....for the start and imediately turns itself off from the codes its been giving me its the anti theft system... Can also be the battery sumtimes neither is a fun thing as it will cause you to not be able to start your car sumtines jumping it helps id advise getting it reprogrammed and a new battery if yours is old

So heres something that might work check your fluids the dodge avenger is pretty smart and saves you from costly repairs for me my engine would shut off after turning over and what cause it was my coolant level was low and the car shuts itself off to prevent damage to the engine after filling it up it took about 3 engine starts to get the coolant into the engine and since then i havent had a problem

I have a 2010 Dodge Avenger and my car suddenly stops on me. I bought a brand new battery and terminal connectors, but it still stops on me and I have no clue what it is.
