1993 Chevy Caprice crankshaft won't turn

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car just died while I was driving, tried to start it and all I
got was a click. Battery is good, oil level full, the temp was
normal. Lights went out when I tried to start it so I replaced
the starter. Car still won't start it just clicks and the
crankshaft won't turn. Any ideas in what could be the
issue? I have never had an issue with the engine oil is free
of metal shavings when during oil changes.

Did you put a socket on the crank bolt to turn it or are you trying to turn the flywheel? If you're on the crank bolt and it still won't turn, disconnect all the belts if it still doesn't turn it's cooked, if you didn't hear a bang it's most likely a main bearing seized. I would tell you to jack the engine up to remove the pan and just change bearings but when a bearing seizes it burns the crank and leaves metal welded to the crank so it has to be removed and machined or replaced. I hope this helps. Take care.

Thank you for your help, engine did not seize up. The alternator pulley froze up which caused the car to stop running.
