slow crank, car won't start unless foot on brake

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2009 C300 4matic wouldn't start.  All dash lights went on but didn't start unless I put my
foot on the brake while turning the key. Confirmed both keys had same result.  It's at the
dealer now.  Service coordinator tried it and said it's a "slow crank" so when I asked what
that meant he said it could be a lot of things.  He then said they would have to do
extensive diagnosis, asked me to guarantee a minimum of $152 for that labor which would
go towards any repairs, and said diagnosis could take two days.  I no longer have a
warranty so any cost is mine.  What should I expect re: options and cost?

I think you should have checked your battery, may be weak, needing replaced.

Thanks. I'm sure that will be part of the dealer's diagnostics today. I hope it's that simple instead of an EIS repair. Do you know what a new battery should cost?

You were right. It was the battery. Thanks again!
