I have a 92 Honda Accord. It needs a new transmission and clutch. Should I fix it? It has 273000 miles and has run well for 7 years

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was quoted $1500, using a refurbished transmission pack.  Most of the last 100,000
miles have been highway.

You have maintained the car so far, for at least the last 7 years, 100k. Make a list of what's been done, especially in terms of scheduled maintenance: timing belt, water pump, brakes, battery, and fluid changes, etc. Then make a list of what's been replaced just because it died: alternator, wiper motor, exhaust parts. If the car has been kept up with and you have replaced your fair share of these kinds of parts, and the tires all still wear evenly, it's probably worth investing in a new clutch. Not sure if you should actually need a refurbished transmission too, but I'm not there. Providing also that it will also pass inspection easily if repaired. Just because, even though it's high mileage, it's hard to buy a reliable car for $1,500. Although $1,500 and good credit = new car and low monthly payments, too.
