so in a jeep wrangler whats the bes to go for overall, 4 or 6 cilnder?

It all depends upon your driving habits and your desire to get better gas mileage, the 4cyl will get the best mileage but you will have to sacrifice power. The 6cyl, will get you there much faster but it will really burn you at the pumps.

the 4 cyl doesn't really have a considerable better gas mileage for the loss of power it inst worth the few mpgs extra it might be worth the cheaper price when you buy the jeep if that's what your looking for tho me personally would go with the I6 every time better on the trails and better on the highway too love it

Well, if you're THAT worried about fuel mileage, you wouldn't be considering a Wrangler at all, so, in this case, I HIGHLY recommend you get the 6 cylinder. I truly believe you will regret getting the 4. As a fellow Wrangler owner and friend of many other owners, the 4 cylinder owners constantly tell me how they soooo wish they'd have gotten a 6 cylinder!!

I have the 4 banger and do fine on the trails...the 4banger stock paired with the AX15 transmission gets me about 24mpg also i've geared my rear and front axles with 10.50 gears. This gives me more torque for trails. The 4banger still produces about 130 hp stock...drop about $300 and it makes about 160hp which is plenty for basic to intermediate trails.

6 cyl all the way man. I have one and if I run 90 octane fuel and keep it at 90km/h i can get 22 mpg. that is about the same as a 4cyl. the thing to watch for is a cracked exhaust manifold. mine was cracked and before i replaced it the best milage i could get was 18mpg. get a 6 cyl you will regret it if you dont.

I disagree i'm quite happy with my 4banger...in fact, i've only invested 6K including the price of the jeep and i'm putting out about 200hp with 195lbs-ft torque on my 4banger...(i've added parts since my last post, airtube, K&N 6X9 filter, a banks power stainless header, magnaflow 3inch exhaust, and an MSD blaster coil) all in all i'm quite happy with the 4. also with the 4banger it uses different engine mounts than the 6. these mounts bolt up perfectly with no fabrication required to drop a chevy 350 small block V8

i am a really big fan of the 4.0 strate 6 its a great motor but the gas millage is not all that great i have a 03 with a 5 sped manual with 31 maxxi buckshots on stock rims i can get about 19 mpg w/o the ac and 17 with ac i have never herd any any thing about the 4 cil but i would guess it gets really good gas milage

I owned a 1997 wrangler with the four cylinder and a standard transmission. I got 17 miles/gallon in it and I hated the power when rock climbing. Now I own a 2007 wrangler unlimited with the 6 cylinder automatic. It got 20 miles/ gallon when it was stock. after putting a lift, 35 inch tires, steel bumpers, winch, 488 gears, performance exhaust, cold air intake, and a Jet phase one chip in it, I get about 14 miles/gallon, but I am way happy with the performance no matter where I go with it. Like an earlier post said, if you are worried about gas mileage, don't buy a wrangler. wranglers are about fun.
