My 2005 Pontiac G6 is knocking under the hood. Was wondering why?

Question type: General

I was driving for about three hours and about five minutes away from where we was heading to the car just shut off and would not crank over. So I had it towed there. The next day got up and jumped it and it started back up with a knocking and a clanging noise. Also, if you drive it for a few it will die. Can anyone help me out thanks.

Does not sound good. Was the oil level good? Is there any oil on the dip-stick? Never the less, sounds like a rod knock witch requires pulling the motor to get fixed or replaced. Those motors just don't go to hell, something happened to cause this. May have it overheated at one time? This could cause the heads to warp and let antifreeze (coolant) to seep into the oil.

The oil was good when we left. We stopped about an hour away and the car was still good and quiet as always. About to hours later when we was about there it shut off and I had it towed to where we was going and checked everything the next day the oil was dry for some reason. The car did not overheat. Thanks
