No Spark.

Asked by PNB1987 Mar 01, 2009 at 02:00 AM about the Mitsubishi 3000GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The spark plug wire wasn't fully conected by the previous owner. It arced through and fried the coil pack. We replaced that, the spark plug and the wire end. Then went on to replace the Control Module. It started running, then we started driving and got about 75 miles and it died again and has no spark again. We checked all the coil packs and they are all getting power, all have 12 volts, but there is no spark command. Any ideas what the problem is??

CHECK YOUR IGN FUSE under the hood. I had this problem on my 92 diamante. I replaced the $500 dealership only crank angle sensor, turns out it was the IGN (ignition) fuse. It wasn't totally bad, but bad enough that it killed it. These cars have a smart detection on them. My head gasket blew on bank 1, cyl 3. That's why the fuse cut. It doesnt want you to drive it and wreck it. Your situation is different, but quite similar. If it fried the coil pack, it may have done damage to the power transistor. If not, I would check that and all of your fuses and ground. Start with the stuff that is the cheapest to replace, and then work your way up to bigger fish. I wish I would have. I would have saved $498.88 to be exact.
