OEM installed Hitch package - Running lights not working

I have a 2007 X5. Dealer installed a Hitch package before driving out brand new.
Tried to tow my trailer a few days ago, tested the lights and everything worked fine.
However as soon as we hit the road the running lights went off. The stop and turning
lights work fine.

I reviewed installation info for the hitch package and found the location of 4 fuses in the
fuse box on the right side of the trunk. Those were F116, F118, F143 and F144,
checked them all and they look intact.

With a tester I checked the voltage in the connector to the trailer. As expected got
good measurement for stop/turn terminals but just a noise for the running light.
I don't know if the trailer has a short, still need to do a full inspection. But how can I
restore power in the car side? is there any other fuse or contact that I should check for
anywhere else in the car?

I will need to look at a electrical diagram for this issue because I belive the control unit controls those.

Thank you Robert, by control unit you mean the car computer? I'm guessing that if you are right I won't be able to fix it myself.

Yes that module does need programming by a local BMW dealer. Like I said before still would need to see the wiring diagram for that year of vehicle to be sure. So many different versions of it.
