2013 Ford Taurus Brakes gone

What would cause a 2013 Ford Taurus to suddenly loose the brakes without
warning.  It felt like metal against slick glass and no scrubbing noise.  Barley
got stopped before hitting traffic.  An exclamation light came on and The brake
light after this happened.  The next day it is fine.  No lights on and cant' make
the brakes not work .

Either a problem in the ABS (like the hydraulic control unit) or in the master cylinder. Should still get it checked even if it seems fine now. Losing brakes in traffic is no joke - just remember you do have an emergency brake.
