Truck won't run

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, I have 1995 F150 with a 4.9 in line engine. I'm having fuel line problems. My truck won't run unless you spray starting fluid into it then it cuts out as soon as the starting fluid burns off. We've changed the fuel pump we've changed the fuel pressure regulator. We ran a compression test on the fuel rail and it holds at 55psi then we pulled the fuel rail and cleaned and tested each injector and they all work with a good spray pattern but when I pull the spark plugs they are dry? How can I not be getting fuel into the cylinders if the injectors are spraying when I have them out? When fuel rail and injectors are re-installed I have no fuel in cylinders.. I forget to mention that  I also have strong spark at the plugs ?

... it was apparently the map sensor. When it was by-passed the truck went into "limp mode" and started right up. Went to the junkyard for a sensor

no, just started running rough and then wouldn't start up at all. Runs really smooth with the replaced MAP sensor and I'm hoping the gas mileage is better

Wow, I have never heard of a map doing all that, but with today's cars nothing is impossible. I am glad you found your problem and posted here. I'm sure it will help others. What's weird is a Map usually throws a code. Anyway thanks again. Mike.

no dash light code, but did show a code 126 (voltage out of specs) when we jumped the EEC to get manual blinking codes- Biggest problem through the project was advice from helpful friends... lol

Ha, I know everyone wants to throw in there 2 cents, but you had a really weird and difficult problem. The engine had everything it needed to run. I experienced something similar on a 91 Chevy 3.1. we pulled our hair out and finally we figured out it was injectors causing the problem and again no trouble codes. That is the problem with OBD1 automobiles , they can be hard to diagnose. Well, anyway good luck and thanks for the info. Mike.

I have the exact same issue on my 95 f150 I have 50psi at the rail and good injectors it would not fire up on fluid and if you pump the gas pedal it would barely stay running. I’ll try putting a map drone or in it and hopefully me and my freind can finally make a lap around the block in it
