Why start warm and not cold?

Asked by Clemens Dec 13, 2012 at 07:30 PM about the Ford Econoline Cargo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have Ford motor home econoline 350, 460, year 1987 with elec. ignition and carb. I have exchanged ignition cables thinking they were carbon which grow old and don't conduct in the cold anymore. But this didn't do the job. Checked  for the sparks and there are. Can anybody help?

I am ashamed having to admit that the main flap at the top of the carb was disconnected from the lever of the choke. Therefore it would never start when it was cold. The worst thing about it is that I probably myself disconnected the two by removing the huge air filter housing.
