does not go directly into the speedometer, but goes to a position resolution gearbox~ mine stopped working and it was the fault of the speedometer~, not the cable...have since got another that has the tachometer, temp, oil pressure and gas level all built in~...and a tachometer too (that I never had)~ and trip-odometer too~
