Try this: Jack up car. Locate starter. Have someone turn the key to the ON position and hold it there like they are starting the car. As they hold the key, rap on the starter with a hammer. If the engine suddenly turns over, yes, the starter is bad and needs replacement.

Reelin68 has a good idea. You can also try taking a jumper cable from battery, (a good one) and put one The Black Neg-- cable ground-to -ground on each car and put the Red pos+ from good battery to starter lug, then see if it starts. Or if you used cheap jumper cables, use TWO sets and allow to run like that, for at least 10 minutes, relax, have a beer and be patient.Red to Red on each battery and black ground to ground. Using the battery Neg post for a ground is not as good as frame to frame. Please be safe, don't get under car with tire-jack. Use a proper jack stand. If neither of our suggestions work, come on back. Mater of fact let us know if it does please!

There is a mud-guard underneath but easily removed..this will go full screen

Most likely the contacts from the solenoid need to be replaced! I have the same year corolla with the same problem and fixed mine. Check out the instructions here: http://antares.co.nf/youtube.html
