Did you remove the engine from the car, or just work on the top half from under the hood?

i remove the engine with the gear box out of the car and did over haul the engine.

yes i did unbolt the gear and clean the the strainer and drained the old ATF out.

Well unless you forgot to hook something back up, the only thing I can think of is you may be air locked. If you completely drained the system, I think you have to pre-fill the torque converter with fluid before bolting it back up. I would start the engine back up and slowly shift through all of the gears a few times, then check your fluid level on the stick again. You may have to do this several times before you notice a change in the fluid level. Post back with results......

If that Tranny STRAINER was not put back correctly you will be sucking air into the hydraulic circuits of the tranny. Suggest you perform a careful inspection of that strainer...and....check for a missing O-RING or Gasket.

It bolts to the back of the fly wheel. Looks like a big fat doughnut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrqANOa_k3w
