2006 Audi A4 3.2L won't turn over

Asked by A42006Avant Oct 02, 2014 at 01:46 PM about the Audi A4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Battery is charged and tested ok (12.7 volts and 100+ cold crank amps)
All dash light show when key is turned on,
when key is turned to start position - nothing, no click or any sound, nothing
Same result with car in Park or Neutral, foot on or off brake

When bettery was reconnected alter testing, noticed sparl on connection of (+) with (_) connected.  Took (+) off and test shows 12.7 V between batt(+) and (+) clamp, also 25 amps.

Am I looking at a dead short in starter/solinoid circuit?

Yep you mostly likely have a bad wire to the main points in the starter. It is not uncommon for the wire from the solenoid to the starter points to rot off. this happened to me one day and ended up having my dad drag my car home with a chain just to find out this was my issue. Unfortunately you have to get a new starter if this happens. try the wrecking yard first. i ended up with a brand new starter for only 67$ at my local wrecking yard. can't say you will have the same luck but worth a shot first.
