pulled tourqe converter out and replaced the front pump seal now i cant get the converter to lock back in place enough to get tranny back in .

you may have assembled one of the rings upside down...haven't experienced this myself but a neighbor who rebuilt his turbo 350 himself did this by mistake on the third week or so- really have no idea of your geometry, but is possible that something went backwards without you noticing it~

You should just be able to spin in until all the splines line up and it fall right in. I cant thing of anything that would inhibit it from going back in from the repair you performed.
