Dodge B3500 van 2002 5.9 liter gas auto
transmission.  Will not shift into drive for
first few miles.  But when I stop and shut
engine off for a few minutes and start
driving again  then it will shift fine

First check transmission fluid level and also when was the last time you had the transmission fluid and filter change ? If you change fluid and filter add some Lucas Transmission Stop Slip.
