How durrable is the Mazda3's engine?

Question type: Car Customization

I've been reading about how many import engines such as the SR20DETT, 2JZ-GTE, 4G63, and Honda B-series engines are so robust in construction, that they can safely be tuned to make incredible power. I was wondering, how does Mazda's 2.3L MZR measure up? For instance, is it safe to do things like apply 20+psi of boost or spin it to 9000rpm without needing to upgrade internals?

Would someone with real experience answer my question? (What I mean is, no speculating or telling me I'm an idiot for not already knowing.)

Thanks.

Ok, so I realize that by spinning the MZR with its 94mm stroke to 9000rpm would result in a mean piston speed of 28.19m/s, which I doubt the stock rods can tolerate, and also that with an otherwise stock tune, the MZR's power curve drops severely after about 6000rpm. Therefore, based on the engine's proportions, turbocharging appears to be the far superior option. Yet my question remains. Has anyone tried pushing large volumes of air through this engine? And if so, how many psi could it tolerate, and what was power delivery like?
