Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am in the middle of swapping the transmission on my Jetta and am getting really frustrated because I can not get the spline on the transmission to go in to the torque converter. it has 2 splines on one shaft and a key way in the very back of the transmission. any advise would be greatly appreciated . thanks

Only suggestion I would have is you need some kind of trans jack so you can slide it straight in. Two different times I changed to a smaller torque converter with higher stall speed on TH400's and never had a bit of problems. I was using a home made bracket that fit in the saddle of my floor jack.

For future references, you have to keep spinning the torque converter until the splines eventually line up and will go into place since the mating spline gear wants to fall off centre it’s much easier to put the converter in place prior to putting transmission in..
