Batteries are prorated. If it is sold as a four year battery its expected to last a minimum of four years. If the battery fails before the warranty period ends then depending on how much time is left on the warranty a chart will explain how much money will be refunded towards a new battery. Prorating is similar to buying a car, the more mileage, or time, put onto the item the less its worth on a trade in. Eventually all the battery will be worth is what's called a core, which is usually $5- $15, and that's only to ensure proper disposal. My dads 03 GMC sierra battery was a five year battery and it lasted 8 yrs. Most quality batteries will easily exceed its warranty by 50% to 60%. 4 years batteries lasts 6-7, 6 year batteries can last 10+ if properly maintained. That means cleaned and kept charged.
