Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just changed the oil in my 2007 bmw 328xi. Today when I got in the car the oil light is on and it says that I have +1qt but it is under the minimum line for oil. There is no leak, no smell and no noise. Whats going on? Does the computer need to be reset? Help

yes I was going to add another quart but why is the oil level below the minimum? it almost looks like there isn't any oil in it but I know there is... is there something I need to reset?

it is low because you didn't put enough in when you changed it and now the light and dipstick are telling you you need to add a quart.

I would have to agree with the previous responses. You may not have filled the crankcase to spec. Try resetting the oil life and see what happens. If it comes back on then you'll know you need to top off the oil. Careful not to add too much.

chances that resetting the computer will increase the oil level on the dipstick are somewhere between slim and none.

I had the same problem, added 1qt, the light was still on, I had to wait 45 min with the car shutdown for the sensor to re-calibrate. All good now, this happened after 5,000 miles/6month from oil change.
