can you bypass the fuel pump relay on a 1997 gmc sonoma

I have no power at the pump. can i run a new positive lead from the fuse box straight to the pump? I tried it and this works, BUT is it safe???

I would not reccomend that. The relay is in place for a reason.

you can't drive it this way the relay controls the fuel pumps off and on while the vehicle is running so no its not safe to bypass the fuel pump. try just replacing the relay and check the wires to the fuel pump you likely have a bad wire or relay.
