1995 gmc wont shift back into park

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have all gears and gearshift indicator shows correct position. Shifter stops dead at
reverse. Nothing broke or loose under truck, no linkage to adjust, cable opperated. Could
something in steering column be the cause? IF park-neutral saftey switch takes a crap,
could it prevent shifter from engaging into park?

Disconnect the cable end on the tranny and test the tranny selector and the dash shifter separately. It's either the dash or inside the tranny.

I have a1995 gmc Sierra 2wd swb stepside... The ignition box under my steering wheel... Does it have anything to do with it not shifting??? It seems to be stuck in 2nd gear .. I have to give it alot of gas to get it to move.... I can down shift to a low gear and it moves fast with less gas from a dead still.. What would be my problem ... I changed the box twice before and everything worked fine... Can u help???
