chevy lumina van wipers dont work sometimes and when they do its not for long

This actually sounds more like a wiper relay. If the motor works at all, I would not suspect the motor as the culprit. Try replacing the wiper relay, should be in the underhood fuse panel. You may also have a problem with your switch. Try the relay first.
